Details

A great ski for alpine touring, Atomic Backland 80 SL is built with superlight SL Fiberglass, Ultra Light Woodcore and a Carbon Backbone to reduce overall weight for efficient uphill performance.

A bit narrower than the Backland 86 SL, this smooth, stable, and super lightweight ski loves to climb. Solid on the way down, the All Mountain Rocker allows the ski to blast through variable conditions and the Carbon Backbone provides exceptional agility and stable edge grip on the descent.

A cut-out notch in the tips allows for quick and easy skin transitions. Super lightweight, smooth, and stable this ski sits between Backland UL and regular Backland skis.

Picking the correct ski size?

There is no one size for one height and weight. The general rule is to pick a ski that is going to land somewhere between your chin and the top of your head. Within your size range there are multiple reasons to choose a shorter or longer ski.

Reasons for Shorter Ski’s, closer to your chin:

  • beginner or intermediate skier
  • Your weight is lighter than average for your height
  • You like to make short, quick turns

Reasons to size your skis longer, closer to the top of your head:

  • skiing fast and aggressively
  • You weigh more than average for your height
  • The majority of your skiing off the trail
  • Skis have significant rocker in the tip

A shorter ski will be easier to turn yet not as stable as a longer ski. A carving ski with a skinnier waist and a smaller turn radius can be skied at a shorter length than an all mountain or a freeride ski with larger, longer turn radius and fatter waist width.
